Thank you for your interest in the Booker Tea Reading Group. Founded in 1997, the group meets monthly in Washington, D.C. and Berlin, Germany to discuss award-winning and notable world literature. To learn more about our upcoming titles, click here for our annual reading list.
UPDATE: After more than 20 years, the DC Chapter of the Booker Tea Reading Group has closed its doors. My gratitude to Kathy Sawyer, who led the group for more than a decade after my move to Berlin in 2006, and to Colleen Thomas, who led the group after Kathy moved from the Washington, DC region herself in 2018. And, of course, I give thanks to all of the members who brought life (and food!) to all of the monthly meetings that took place since 1997.
If you want to re-start the DC Chapter or form your own elsewhere, please feel free to use the current reading list. The group lives on in Berlin and is happy to share the joy of reading and discussing contemporary literature with readers wherever they may be!
The DC chapter meets on the third Sunday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Atrium (formally called the Robert & Arlene Kogod Courtyard) of the National Portrait Gallery, 750 9th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. The centrally located meeting location is accessible by many forms of public transit. Click here for the Google Map of the National Portrait Gallery.
To participate in a monthly meeting, please sign up via the Booker Tea Reading Group’s Meetup.com page. Membership is free, but donations from participating readers are appreciated. Donations are used to cover Meetup’s monthly group fees. Regardless, bring your enthusiasm and goodwill for a great discussion!
If you have any further questions, email the DC chapter moderator, Colleen Thomas, at email@example.com.
