Recipe: Cinnamon Magic
Summary: this is the old family recipe of a good friend, and must be attributed to one Great-Grandma Oberlander
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 3 T butter, softened
- 2 scant cups flour (we usually do half whole wheat flour, and half unbleached white flour)
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 T cinnamon
- Any other spices/flavors you’d like to add, usually 1/2 to 1 T each (Other spices added in the past: cloves, allspice, cardamom, chili powder, nutmeg)
- 2 T baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 t vanilla
- 2 T butter
- 1 cup milk
Instructions
- In a saucepan, boil the water, brown sugar, and 3 T butter
- Mix the other ingredients together
- Put batter in large, greased casserole dish with a cover (I use a 4-quart Pyrex, since we once overflowed the edges of a 3-quart). Pour the butter/water/brown sugar mixture over the batter, cover, and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy the magic
