In a quiet town in western Nigeria, four young brothers— Ikenna, Boja, Obembe, and Benjamin—begin secretly fishing in a forbidden river after their strict father leaves home for work. Their childhood adventure takes a darker turn when a local madman delivers a terrible prophecy: that the eldest brother will be killed by one of the others.
What begins as a boyhood game gradually becomes a story of suspicion, fear, and tragic inevitability. As the brothers struggle with the power of the prophecy, their bond begins to unravel. Told through the eyes of the youngest brother years later, The Fishermen is a haunting coming-of-age novel that blends family drama, myth, and tragedy while exploring how belief, destiny, and rumor can shape lives.
