About the author

Clarice Lispector (1920–1977) was a Ukrainian-born Brazilian novelist and short-story writer. She studied law in Rio de Janeiro and published widely in Brazilian literary outlets while also working in journalism and cultural writing. Celebrated for her innovative, interior style and philosophical intensity, she is now regarded as one of the defining voices of twentieth-century Brazilian literature.
